My Entrepreneurship Story
Growing up raised in a family of immigrants from Latin America, I was always taught the value of hard work and dedication to one's craft. I was instilled from a young age that these beliefs build a strong character in someone and fosters an attitude that others would gradually gravitate towards. These are all qualities I see firsthand in my father and his professional work. My father grew up in a house full of architects and saw himself in the same profession. In his earlier years he worked under my grandfather's architecture firm but felt it was time to make a leap. He made a decision that changed his life and became an entrepreneur and started his own construction company as both an architect and a general contractor. 20 years later, Candela Construction Inc. is still thriving in the South Florida area and is on its way to the very top led by my passionate and hardworking father. As I watched and sometimes helped my father with his work growing up, I was able to witness firsthand the way he prepared for perfection in his craft. He always said being an entrepreneur and new business owner could be very difficult and may not be for everyone, but he was determined to make it work and be successful, and at the same time create a pathway for success for me and my younger siblings. I can proudly say this his work ethic has influenced me tremendously in a positive way, and I hope that in the future I can attack my vocation with the same endeavor I saw my father succeed in his.

I enrolled in ENT 3003 because I was curious as to see what material would be taught in this class. I wanted to see how the course would relate to real life situations and how the professor would prepare us to potentially be entrepreneurs in the future. Often times the general public think of entrepreneurs as people who randomly start new businesses with vague or recycled ideas, but I know this is not the case. I am very interested as to what the course will entail over the semester and the learning material.

Hi Mark,
ReplyDeleteWhat a great blessing you have for the great education that your parents instilled in you. I agree with you, hard work and dedication are fundamental tools for success. I also admire his father's courage in making the decision to become an entrepreneur because that is the step that many people do not take for fear of failure, but he had his clear goals and with effort he was still building his expectations. You have a great guide in your life to meet your goals. I wish you to obtain great knowledge in this class and be very useful for your future. Good luck!
Hey Mark,
ReplyDeleteOff the bat, your story really resonated me. My family and I are also immigrants and hard work seems to always be embedded in everything that we are taught. I was really glad to hear that the risks your father took paid off and that he was able to set such a great example for his kids. It’s important for kids to recognize, understand, and appreciate the hard work that goes into sustaining a life and family.
Hey Mark,
ReplyDeleteI can totally relate to your story, it actually has many similarities with mine. I love how both of us have taken inspiration from our families and try to make something of it. The success your father had shows that if you put all your effort into something you can achieve your goals, doesn't matter where you come from. Great story!
