1. Gators in Serious Funk Before Roadtrip

The Florida Gators basketball team recently has been suffering loses that earlier in the year would have been considered easy wins. The team has been playing subpar to its high preseason ranking of #4 in the country and as a result of it find themselves unranked and having loss 3 games in a row. A feat that seems unimaginable heading into the season. The problem presented in the article is the fact that the team lacks focus and often times finds themselves having mental lapses that cost them the win. The players and the coaching staff have the problem. The university has invested a lot into the basketball program including a new state-of-the-art basketball arena. The players and coaching staff have to step it up.
2. UF Sailing Team's Equipment Damaged by High Winds

The fleet of the UF Sailing team has been severely injured as the 8 boats sails have been destroyed due to damages suffered on the north shore of Lake Wauburg. The loss of the boats has damped the team's excitement for the year, but they have high hopes of reaching national's despite it. They are forced to purchase new equipment that is valued at close to $100,000.00 unfortunately. The broken ships and lack of equipment is the problem. The team and its staff are the one's who have the carry the burden of this issue and it is up to them to see themsleves out of it.

On October 22nd, Alachua County introduced a law that requires the age of an individual to be 21 in order to purchase a tobacco product. This age increase from 18 years old to 21 years old, the same age as legal alcohol consumption, has damped profits for the local vape and tobacco shops. The shops near UF campus have been hit the hardest as a certain demographic of students now cannot be customers. The problem for the shops is the new age limit. The people affected by this opportunity are the shop owners and employees who see their profits diminishing and as a result could see themselves out of business or laid off.

An intense earthquake located in the ocean between Cuba and Jamaica has left lasting effects on the Americas. The results of the quake affected those in Florida as well as Mexico, but thankfully nobody was injured. The Grand Cayman's were affected by the aftershock and public schools were forced to be cancelled on Wednesday. The problem is the uncommon earthquakes in this location of the globe. Unfortunately those residents and government officials located in the areas surrounding the earthquake are the ones with the problem as they must prepare for another situation like this, or worse.
5. Man, Juvenile Gang Members Flee Police in Stolen Vehicle

A local man was arrested by police officers of Alachua County following a lengthy chase. The man along with 4 masked juveniles stole a 2004 Toyota Corolla and hit multiple other vehicles in an attempt to escape capture. The chase was called off for safety concerns but the culprit was ultimately caught as he attempted to enter another vehicle later. The problem was the criminal on the loose for a critical time as well as the criminal's attempt to flee. The problem was the police officers of Alachua County's.

ReplyDeleteIt looks like you and I did this assignment pretty differently; I separated the 5 elements that the assignment asked for into parts after each article link while you answered everything in more of a paragraph form. I think in the future I will do it more like this so each entry reads more fluidly and concisely.
I also wrote about the vape shop and the Sailing team; we practically expressed the problems and the people incurring the problems the same, so we are in agreement there. Great work describing each article and identifying local opportunities here!

ReplyDeleteIt has been a disappointing basketball season. With the team starting the year ranked so high I had high expectations that have completely dissolved by now, hopefully they make a run so we can get at least a 6th seed in the tournament. I was a somewhat scared when I heard about the earthquake between Cuba and Jamaica, I still have family there so it always worries me when I hear things like that happen. Thankfully no one was injured.
